Overview

Lucy needed a site that feels personal and distinctive while still converting curiosity into contact.

I designed and built the site in Framer, balancing expressive layout against a clear path to enquire.

The problem

Creator sites carry a contradiction. The site has to feel like a person — distinctive, textured, unmistakably theirs — while performing a commercial job. Push too far toward expression and visitors admire the site and leave; push too far toward conversion and the personality that made them curious disappears.

The second issue is durability. Highly expressive sites accumulate design debt quickly: every new piece of content becomes a bespoke layout decision, so updating gets harder until it stops happening.

Constraints

A strong existing visual identity to honour, mobile-first browsing patterns, and content that had to stay easy to update without accruing design debt.

Approach

Expressive typography and layout carry the personality, but within a system. Scale contrast, deliberate asymmetry and generous space create distinctiveness — while the underlying structure stays consistent enough that new content slots in without a design decision each time.

Mobile was designed first rather than adapted. For creator audiences the phone is the primary surface, and expressive desktop layouts that reflow badly lose exactly the impression they were built to create. Each breakpoint got explicit attention.

The path to contact stays visible without being intrusive. Rather than a single buried contact page, the invitation to connect recurs at natural decision points, so acting on interest never requires hunting.

Underneath, a component structure keeps updates safe. Adding work or changing copy does not risk breaking layout, which is what keeps a site like this alive past its launch month.

Expression inside a system

The brief pulled in two directions: the site had to feel unmistakably personal, and it had to keep working as content was added over time. Those goals conflict if expressiveness is handled as a series of one-off decisions, because every new piece of content becomes a fresh design problem and the visual language drifts.

The resolution was to define the expressive choices once — scale contrast, asymmetry, where and how the grid may break — and then reuse them. The personality is systematic rather than improvised, which means new work can be added without a design decision and without dilution.

Mobile-first, genuinely

For creator audiences the phone is not a secondary surface, it is the primary one. Expressive desktop layouts that simply reflow tend to lose exactly the character that made them worth building. Each breakpoint was composed deliberately, with type scale and spacing tuned per size rather than derived automatically.

Conversion without pressure

A hard-sell conversion path would be tonally wrong here. Instead the invitation to get in touch recurs quietly at the points where a visitor is most likely to have decided — after the work, after the about section — so acting on interest never requires hunting for a contact page, and never feels like being sold to.

Handover

Built so updates are safe. Adding work or editing copy cannot break the layout, which is what keeps a site like this alive past its launch month.

Outcome

A memorable personal brand site that keeps personality front and centre without sacrificing usability or updateability.

Frequently asked questions

What was the focus for this project?

A creator and personal brand site where the design has to carry the personality. Kept deliberately light — the page weight is a fraction of a typical portfolio site, which matters because most visitors arrive on mobile.

Is the site easy to update?

Yes. Content lives in the CMS and the layout is component-based, so adding new work is filling in a record rather than designing a page.

Do you work with individual creators as well as companies?

Yes. The process is the same — discovery call, fixed quote in writing, then design and build. Scope is smaller, so the number is smaller.
