WHY IT MATTERS

Websites do not fail loudly. They drift.

Nothing breaks on the day you stop maintaining a site. It degrades quietly — a plugin-free platform still accumulates broken outbound links, images added at full weight, pages that were meant to be temporary, redirects nobody flattened, and copy that describes a product from two pricing changes ago. Six months of that is invisible. Eighteen months of it is a redesign.

Performance decay

Core Web Vitals are not a launch achievement, they are a running average. The usual cause of a slide is not the build — it is images uploaded at original size by whoever was fastest, and third-party scripts added one at a time by people who each assumed theirs was the only one.

Content rot

Pricing changes, a service gets renamed, a case study client rebrands. Each is a five-minute edit that nobody owns, so it waits. The compounding cost is that your best-ranking pages slowly stop describing what you actually sell.

Silent SEO regressions

A page gets duplicated for a campaign and never unpublished. A title gets rewritten and loses its keyword. An internal link points at a URL that now redirects. None of it triggers an alert, and all of it shows up in Search Console about a quarter later.

Nobody is watching uptime

Most small sites find out they were down because a customer mentioned it. Monitoring is cheap and the alternative is discovering a DNS or form outage after it has cost you a week of leads.

THE MONTH

What a maintenance month actually looks like.

The plan is not a support inbox that stays quiet until you need something. There is a fixed rhythm, and it produces artefacts you can read rather than a vague assurance that things are fine.

Continuously — monitoring

Uptime checks, Core Web Vitals field data, and search health watched in the background. If something breaks you hear it from me, not from a customer.

On request — edits and upkeep

Copy changes, new sections, swapped images, a landing page for a campaign. Sent by email or Slack, turned around in one to two working days, no ticket system in between.

Monthly — the health report

One page: what changed, what performance and search health did, what I fixed without asking, and what I recommend next month. Written to be read in three minutes, not filed.

Quarterly — the deeper pass

A full crawl compared against the previous quarter. Broken links, redirect chains, heading order, metadata drift, orphaned pages, and image weight. This is the pass that catches the things monthly monitoring cannot see.

HONEST SCOPE

Included, and deliberately not included.

Unlimited-edit retainers work by being vague about what an edit is. Here is the actual line, so neither of us has to negotiate it later.

Included in the monthly plan

Copy, image, and content edits on existing pages

New sections built from the existing design system

Uptime, Core Web Vitals, and search health monitoring

Broken link and redirect chain fixes as they appear

Metadata corrections and heading order maintenance

CMS support — new posts, projects, and collection items

Framer platform updates and component housekeeping

A written monthly report and a quarterly full crawl

Scoped separately

New page templates or a new design direction

A full redesign, or a migration from another platform

Custom code components and third-party integrations

Sustained SEO or CRO programmes — those are the Grow retainer

Brand, logo, or illustration work

Anything that is really a new project wearing a maintenance hat

The test I use: if it fits inside the system we already built, it is maintenance. If it requires designing something new, it is a project and it gets a fixed quote before anyone starts. That keeps the monthly number honest in both directions.

FIT

Who this is actually for.

Maintenance is worth paying for when the cost of the site being slightly wrong is higher than the retainer. That is not every business.

A good fit

The site is a real acquisition channel, it changes most months, and nobody in-house wants to own it. The retainer costs less than the hours it currently eats.

A poor fit

A brochure site that changes twice a year. Buy a quarterly health check instead of a monthly plan — I will tell you that on the call rather than sell you the retainer.

Worth upgrading

If you want the site to actively grow rather than stay healthy, the Grow retainer covers SEO and CRO work on top of everything here.

PRICING

Plans start at $399/mo, billed monthly with no contract — quarterly billing saves 10%. The exact number depends on site size and edit volume, and it is fixed in writing after a discovery call before anything starts.
