Wix is fine for small, stable sites. Framer is the move when design is competitive and the structure needs to change more than once a year. And let’s kill the tired argument first: Wix’s SEO reputation is a decade out of date.
Let’s be honest about Wix SEO
Wix handles titles, descriptions, redirects, sitemaps and canonical tags properly. The “Wix is bad for SEO” claim is outdated, and anyone selling you a migration on that basis alone is being lazy. The genuine limits are structural: page architecture you can’t refactor, performance you can’t engineer past, and a design ceiling that makes every site look like its template. Those are real — and they’re the actual reasons teams move.
The comparison
Framer | Wix | |
|---|---|---|
SEO fundamentals | Full control | Competent, much improved |
Schema | Custom code, unlimited | App-dependent |
Design system | Components and tokens | Template and editor |
Refactoring a page | Straightforward | Often a rebuild |
Performance | Static CDN | Ceiling on heavy sites |
Apps | Rarely needed | Large marketplace |
Cost | $10–30/mo | $17–59/mo |
Where Wix is still the right call
A small, stable site that rarely changes. No design capacity on the team and no plan to hire for it. A local business site where "looks professional" matters more than "looks distinctive." Wix's ADI and template system genuinely serves this well — migrating a site like that is spending money to solve a problem you don't have.
What the Wix ceiling costs you in practice
It shows up as workflow friction before it shows up as anything visible to customers. A page type that's really a workaround for a page type Wix doesn't offer. A section everyone's afraid to touch because the last edit broke the mobile layout. A blog that gets real traffic but can't be restructured into topic clusters without a rebuild. None of this is catastrophic day to day — it's a slow tax on every change, paid by whoever has to make it.
Migrating from Wix: what to expect
There's no meaningful Wix export, so this is a deliberate rebuild — content and URLs carried across intentionally, not a file transfer.
1. Content and URL audit. Every page, blog post, and Wix Store item gets catalogued, along with the current URL structure that needs to survive the move.
2. Design and rebuild. Pages are redesigned and rebuilt in Framer — not a visual clone of the Wix template, since template-locked design was usually part of the original problem.
3. Redirects. A 1:1 map from every old URL to its new destination, which is typically the fastest and lowest-risk part of a Wix migration since Wix URLs are usually straightforward.
4. QA and launch. Pre- and post-launch crawl comparison, confirming nothing indexed drops out silently.
FAQ
Is Wix actually bad for SEO?
No, not any more. If you’re being sold a migration on that basis alone, ask for a different reason.
So why migrate at all?
Design ceiling, structural rigidity, performance on heavy pages, and a site that reads as generic to anyone who builds websites.
Will I lose rankings?
Not with a redirect map. Wix migrations are usually the fastest and lowest-risk of any platform.
Will my Wix Editor site migrate differently than an ADI site?
The content audit looks slightly different, but the destination is the same either way — both rebuild as a proper Framer site, since neither Editor nor ADI output is something Framer can import directly.
What happens to Wix Bookings or Wix Stores?
They stay on Wix, or move to a dedicated tool for that function, with Framer running the marketing site in front — the same hybrid pattern used for Shopify stores, applied to whichever transactional feature you actually need.
How long does a typical Wix migration take?
Two to four weeks for most sites under fifteen pages, including redesign — Wix migrations tend to move faster than WordPress ones since there's no plugin ecosystem to audit, just content and structure.
Outgrown the template? The Wix migration service covers the rebuild and the redirects — or send your URL for the free audit.
WORKING ON THIS RIGHT NOW?
I run this exact process for US and EU teams — design, build, migration and the SEO work afterwards. Fixed quote in writing within three days.

Frequently asked questions
Is Framer better than Wix for SEO?
Both can rank. The real difference is structural control — per-page metadata, canonicals, CMS shape and internal linking are more deliberate in Framer, which matters as a site grows past a handful of pages.
What is the Wix ceiling?
Structure, not SEO. It shows up as awkward CMS patterns, page types that are really other page types in disguise, and layouts everyone is afraid to touch. That is a workflow cost, and it compounds weekly.
Can I move my Wix content automatically?
No. There is no meaningful Wix export, so this is a rebuild with content carried across deliberately. That is less painful than it sounds — you are moving content and URLs, not markup.
Is there a way to test Framer before committing to a full migration?
Yes — starting with one high-value page (usually the homepage or a campaign landing page) is a low-risk way to see the difference before deciding on the full site.
